November 30, 2009: Celebrations Around the World

Well, we have packed our bags and we are off!!!! For the next month we will be “traveling” around the world, visiting different countries and learning about how they celebrate this time of year. We made our “suitcases” and we each got a plane ticket. Each day, we will be presenting our tickets to Mrs. Short and she will punch them before we board the plane. We will be reading about different countries and their traditions as well as doing some activities. At the end of the month, we will be having our big “Celebrations Around the World” celebration in the gym. Please be sure to ask your child each day which country we visited.

November 26, 2009: Thanksgiving Feast

Second grade celebrated Thanksgiving early with our annual Thanksgiving Feast. Everyone brought in a baggie full of cut-up vegetable and we added them to our one-pot turkey soup. Parents sent in stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn muffins, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies. We also made our own butter that morning. What a great culminating activity to our month long unit on Colonial Days. A HUGE thank you to all of our wonderful parents who sent in food and came in and helped out.

November 20, 2009:”Disguised Turkey” Slide Show

This week we read a story called, 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving. In the story the children went on a field trip to a farm and tried to save the turkeys from the farmer by hiding them under their shirts and sneaking them home with them. After reading the story students each took home a turkey and "disguised" it, to hide it from the farmer. I took their turkeys and made this slide show. Please take a peek, and let us know what you think. Please leave a comment for us. THANKS!!!!!

November 16, 2009: Thankful Turkey
