January 29, 2010: Math Club

Mrs. Laidlaw and myself had another great meeting of the Math Club after school today. Today we focused on money. We began with Mrs. Laidlaw reading a story called Pigs Will Be Pigs. It was a really cute story about a pig family who turn their house upside down looking for money, so that they can go out to dinner. Each child was then given a baggie of change. They had to sort  and count out their change. Then they had to show 3 different amounts to a partner to buy candy from the “candy store.” We then moved into some centers. Today’s centers included: Show & Solve Money Sliders, shopping at a pet store, money wallets, matching money puzzles, and a money game.
