February 26, 2010: Read Across The Planet

On Tuesday, March 2nd, we will be participating in Read Across The Planet. This is a program that links schools from all over the world via video conference to present to each other something related to reading. We will be connecting via video conference with a second grade class in Paris, Texas. We will be presenting a retelling (play) of the story Where The Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. We will also each share a writing and picture that we did about when we feel wild and we will be doing a choral reading of a poem. The kids have worked so hard on this, I am very proud of them. Here are some pictures of them with their “wild things” that they made for the play. I will also be putting on a video that I took today of the play.

February 26, 2010: Math Club

After school today we had another great meeting with the Math Club and our focus was on measuring. We started off with Mrs. Laidlaw reading a story called, How Big is a Foot? Then we got together with a partner and went around the media center to find things that were bigger than our ribbon, shorter than our ribbon, and the same size as our ribbon. Afterwards, we did some fun measuring centers. Centers included: some measuring games, matching measuring puzzles, filling in the area of shapes with cubes, and using a tape measure to measure how tall our partner was. Everyone took home a packet that contained some measuring games to play at home with mom and dad. Don’t forget, next week is the last week for the Math Club.

Kayla and I tried it several times and it guessed our number every time. If you would like to play the game, just click here on Guess The Number, and it will take you to it.
