This week we are working on Unit 16 in Spelling. Today, your child should have brought home their pretest and homework sheet. Please remember that spelling homework is due back by Friday each week. BOOK TREASURE BOOK: Book treasure retelling sheets and envelopes are due back to school by Tuesday.
FEBRUARY SELF-ESTEEM PROJECT: February self-esteem projects will be coming home on Monday, and are due back to school by Friday.
MATH TEST: We will be having our Unit 5 Math test on Tuesday. Watch for two more review sheets to come home on Monday. Please help your child study for the test by going over the review sheets.
REPORT CARDS: Watch for report cards to come home next Friday. Please sign the envelope and return it to school the following Monday.
TACKY THE PENGUIN: Don’t forget….Tacky t-shirts are due back to school by Monday!!!
Yesterday we read Tacky the Penguin for our book treasure book. Tacky is a total nonconformist who lives with a group of formal, proper penguins. But it is Tacky who foils the plans of three critters with”get-rich-quick plans” that threaten the penguins’ existence. With his un-penguin-like antics, Tacky puzzles the hunters to such an extent that they’re firmly convinced they cannot be in the “land of the pretty penguins.” Your child should have brought home their retelling sheet, envelope, and a little Tacky yesterday. Please make sure to return your retelling sheet and envelope by next Tuesday. Remember…we are working on doing a good, detailed retelling of the story!!! Since there is no school on Friday, spelling homework is due back by Thursday this week. This week’s skill is working with homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same, but are spelled different and have different meanings. I found a homophone matching game to help you practice this week’s skill. Everyone was really surprised to see that Jaden’s mom was our Mystery Reader on Friday. She read us a wonderful book about money called, One Cent, Two Cent, Old Cent, New Cent.She also brought in some coins from Finland and Austria for us the look at. She also brought us each a Hershey candy bar wrapped in money wrapping paper. A HUGE thank you to Jaden’s mom for taking time out of her day to come in and read to us!!
Friday, after school, Mrs. Laidlaw and I had our second meeting with the Math Club. This week we focused on place value. Mrs. Laidlaw read a book called, A Place For Zero. We played a group “wrap around” game then we got to work at some place value centers. Everyone got to take home a game packet that had lots of games to help practice place value. We hope that everyone had a good time!!
SCIENCE TEST: Don’t forget that we will be having our science test tomorrow on water landforms.
MONDAY: We have library tomorrow, don’t forget your books. We also have gym class tomorrow, don’t forget to wear/bring tennis shoes.
MATH 2nd QUARTER ASSESSMENT: We will be taking the Second Quarter Math Assessment on Wednesday. Watch for review sheets to come home Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure you help your child go over the review sheets and practice any skills that they are having trouble with. Report card grades for math will be based upon this test.
NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on Friday due to records day. Since there will be no school, we will be taking our spelling test on Thursday this week. Also, spelling homework will be due on Thursday this week.
