This week our Book Treasure book is The Mitten, written by Jan Brett. When Nicki drops his white mitten in the snow, he goes on without realizing that it is missing. One by one, woodland animals find the mitten and crawl in; first a curious mole, then a rabbit, a badger and others, each one larger than the last. Finally, a big brown bear is followed in by a tiny brown mouse, and what happens next makes a wonderfully funny climax. Today, your child should have brought home their envelope, retelling sheet, and a mitten with the animals to practice retelling the story. Envelopes and retelling sheets are due back by next Tuesday. If you would like to listen to the story again, just click on the title below.

Today we learned about similes and how to use them in our writing. We read a book called, Crazy Like a Fox, a Simile Story and watched a video on BrainPop Jr. We also wrote some similes about snow. We will be typing up our favorite on in the computer lab tomorrw and add clip art to it. Watch for a slide show of them coming soon. Here is a cool simile video I found last year.
