February 27, 2012: Spelling~Unit 19

Today, your child should have brought home their spelling pretest. Please help them review the words, our test will be on Friday. Spelling homework was also sent home today. This week’s skill is working with contractions. Don’t forget that spelling homework is due back to school by Friday. February 26, 2012: Weekly Reminders

MONDAY: We have library on Monday, don’t forget your books!! We also have Gym class, please wear/bring tennis shoes.

EARLY RELEASE DAY: Tuesday will be an Early Release Day, dismissal will be at 1:30.

FIELD TRIP: We will be going to the Morley Candy Factory on Tuesday. Please be sure to wear your gray second grade t-shirt and don’t forget to bring your money if you would like to shop at the gift shop. If you signed up to be a chaperone, please be to school by 9:30.

February 22, 2012: Awesome Alliteration Activity

Today we learned how to use alliteration in our writing. Alliteration is the use of words with the same initial letter or sound. We read a book called, Willie’s Word World. Tomorrow we will read a book called, The Big Book of Absolutely Animalistic Alliterations.  After reading the story, we practiced making our own sentences using alliteration. Here are some samples of the sentences that we came up with.

February 18, 2012: Weekly Reminders

NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on Monday. Please hold on to your library books until the following Monday.

MATH TEST: We will be testing on Unit 6 in Math on Thursday. Watch for review sheets to come home on Tuesday and Wednesday.

MATH CLUB: We will be having our forth meeting of the Math Club on Friday.

WILD THINGS: Don’t forget that your “Wild Thing” is due back to school on Tuesday. It is very important that you have it at school, we will begin to rehearse using them for our Reader’s Theater.

February 12, 2012: Math Club

On Friday, we had our third meeting with the Math Club. Our focus was on time. Mrs. Taylor read a great book called Clocks and More Clocks.  Then we each got a clock and Mrs. Short and Mrs. Taylor told us different times and we had to show it on our clocks, then we each won a pencil. Then we got to go to a bunch of different time centers. We each got a packet with games in it to help us practice time at home. Just a reminder, there is no Math Club next Friday (since there is no school), we will meet again on February 24th.

February 12, 2012: 100’s Day

On Friday, we celebrated the 100th day of school with some special centers. We rolled a die 100 times and tallied our results, we flipped a coin 100 times and tallied our results, we put together 100 piece puzzles, colored a design on a 100’s grid, did a page for the story The Wolf’s Chicken Stew and did an activity with estimation jars.
