MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS!!!
On Monday, we had our Polar Express Pajama Party. The kids came to school in their pajamas, just like the kids wore on the train. They also brought their most treasured possession to school with them. They did a writing about their treasured possessions. When we come back from Christmas vacation, they will be doing a Voicethread (a recording of themselves reading their stories).
On Tuesday we had the iPad cart in our room for the morning. I introduced the kids to 3 apps that will eventually be on our classroom iPads. During our Daily 5 sessions the kids were able to work on a homophone app, a new spelling app, and an app called Popwords.
Our Mystery Reader last Friday was Adele’s mom. They kids were really excited when she walked into the room. She read us a wonderful story called, The Giving Tree. She also brought us in some yummy marshmallow Christmas trees. A HUGE thank you to Adele’s mom for coming in to read to us.

As we are trying to increase our knowledge of basic addition and subtraction facts, we have been using our Active Expressions. These hand held devices can be used to solve basic addition and subtraction problems. Mrs. Short sets it up and generates 100 problems at a time. When we are ready, we turn on our devices. An addition or subtraction problem shows up on our screen. We enter and send our answer and then it goes to the next problem. When we are done, Mrs. Short can see our results, how many and which ones were correct/incorrect and how long it took us to answer the problems. Here are a few pictures of us using our Active Expressions.
