April 26, 2013: Book Treasure Book

Today we read Corduroy, written by Don Freeman, as our book treasure book. Poor Corduroy! Why won’t anyone buy him? Could it be because his overalls are missing a button? Late at night the teddy bear searches the store for his button. He never finds it, but he does find a girl who loves him and gives him a home. Your child should have brought home their retelling sheet, envelope, and a button today. Retelling sheets are due back to school by next Tuesday. If you would like to listen to the story again, just click on the video below. Also, don’t forget that you can leave your retelling here as a comment.

  1. Corduroy is a stuffed bear who lived in a store. One day a little girl came into the store and saw Corduroy who was missing a button. Her mom said she spent to much money already and the bear was raggedy anyways and missing a button. The little girl said it was the bear she always wanted and asked her mom to please let her get it. Her mom said no. The next day the little girl found some money and went back to the store and bought the bear. When she got home she had made a bed for him and sewed a new button on him. Corduroy turned out to be the best bear she ever had!!

  3. G’loni Says

Corduroy was sad and lonely sitting on the shelf waiting to see if anyone would buy him since no one bought him until the one day a young girl looked in his eyes an said mommy i want this bear but her mom refused saying he didnt look new because of his button was missing on his overall so after the store sled from the shelf to look for his button he traveled through the store looking for it he came upon one sitting on a mattress which wasnt his but he tried pulling it off crashing into a lamp causing the police to search for the noise when the officer saw that it was just Corduroy he picked him up an tucked himunder his arm and put him back on the shelf which was a good thing because the next morning Lisa came into buy him she took Corduroy home an held him an replaced his missing button.

  4. The setting of the book is in the department store and in Lisa’s room. The characters in the story were Corduroy, Lisa, Lisa’s mom, the nightwatchman. Corduroy wants to be bought by a child to love him. A little girl sees Corduroy in the department store and wants to buy him buy her mother says she’s already spent to much money and he’s missing a button. That night, Corduroy goes on a hunt looking for his missing button. He goes upstairs in the department store and sees buttons on the mattresses. Then the nightwatchman sees him and brings him back downstairs. The next day, the little girl, Lisa comes back to by Corduroy. Once Lisa is at home with Corduroy, she sews on his button and loves and takes care of him. I learned that even if something is broke you can fix it and it will be good as new.

  5. I think it is funny that corduroy went looking for his buttons at night when he thought that on the button on the mattress was his button that he pulled off .
