This week we are working on Unit 4 in Spelling. The pre-test should have come home today, please make sure that your child studies their words for the test on Friday. Your child should have also brought home their spelling homework, it is due by Friday. The skill that we are working on this week is working digraphs. September 29, 2013: Global Read Aloud

This year we are participating in The Global Read Aloud. The project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. This is the forth year for the project. The premise is simple; they pick a book to read aloud to our students during a set 6-week period and during that time we try to make as many global connections as possible. We have partnered up with Mrs. Galle’s second grade class in Shullsburg, Wisonsin. We will be posing on our Kidblog site, as well as using Edmodo, and Skype.

September 27, 2013: Book Treasure Book

Today, we read Apple Trouble for our Book Treasure book. In this book, Hedgehog has finished building a cozy nest for winter. Unfortunately, a ripe apple falls from the tree above and gets stuck in her spines, making it impossible for her to fit in her new digs. She has several friends to whom she can go for advice, but their instructions simply make her situation worse. Your child should have brought home their envelope, retelling sheet, and a little apple. Retelling sheets and envelopes are due back to school by Tuesday. The apple stays at home in their treasure boxes.
