On Friday, we began playing math games. We will be playing math games every Friday instead of doing a math lesson in our books. We started off with Addition Top It, Dominoe Top It, a Pop addition/subtraction game and flash cards. The kids were also able to choose the iPads to work on IXL math, and they used the ActiVotes to practice addition facts.
We were very lucky to have Mitch’s grandma join us yesterday for our Mystery Reader. She read us a book and brought us fruit snacks. A HUGE thank you to her for joining us!!
Yesterday we read a wonderful book called, Boogie Bones for our Book Treasure book. Boogie Bones, a skeleton who loves to dance, longs to show his stuff beyond the graveyard’s iron gates but is a little intimidated by people. One night he enters a dance contest at the Town Hall, disguising himself with a hat and tuxedo. All goes well until he launches into the lindy hop and wriggles and jiggles right out of his clothes. Onlookers are aghast to see a skeleton in their midst. Only a small girl is unafraid to dance with him, and her courage inspires everyone else to clap along. Your child should have brought home their envelope, retelling sheet, and a rubber skeleton. Please have your child write a written, detailed retelling of the story. Envelopes and retelling sheets are due back by Tuesday. The skeleton should be kept at home in their treasure boxes. If you would like to listen to the story again, just click on the title below.
This week we read Chapters 7 & 8 of Marty McGuire. The students were asked to use the iPads to go into Edmodo and then click on the link to a Padlet. The question on the Padlet was: What do you think is going to happen next in Marty McGuire? Take a look at our Padlet to see our predictions!
GYM & LIBRARY: Don’t forget, we have gym class on Tuesday and library on Friday.
EARLY RELEASE DAY: Thursday will be an Early Release Day, dismissal will be at 1:30.
SUNNY D LABELS: Just a reminder, we are still collecting Sunny D labels. If you drink Sunny D, please save your labels and bring them to school. We are trying to collect 20, so that we can get 20 free books for our classroom. Don’t forget that I am giving out Eagle Bucks to everyone who brings them in. THANKS!!!
BOOK ORDERS: The October book orders forms came home last week. If you would like to order from them, please send your forms and money in by this Wednesday. Also, don’t forget that you can order on-line. It’s quick, easy, and safe. If you would like to order on-line, just click on the page over to the left that says Book Club Ordering.
We are working on Unit 6 in spelling this week. Your child should have brought home their pretest today. Please make sure that your child is studying those 6 words. Also, a lot of students are mixing up there and their. Please make sure that your child understands the meaning of each word. These words will keep showing up on future tests. This week’s skill is working with homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same, but have different meanings and spellings. Please make sure your child cuts out the cards and practices the words. They need to bring back the top of the sheet with a parent signature saying that they practiced the words. Below is a game to practice using homophones. To play the game, just click on the picture.
THIS WEEK’S SPELLING WORDS ARE: into, has, more, her, two, other
Yesterday we meet with our forth grade book buddies in Mrs. Arnold’s class. We went outside and played a Roll The Pumpkin game. We each got an orange paper with a large pumpkin drawn on it. We took turns rolling two dice, then we had to look at the direction sheet to see what we had to add to our pumpkin depending on what number we roll. It was a beautiful day to be outside with our buddies!!
