November 17, 2013: Writing Celebration

On Friday, we had our first writing celebration. Students picked one of their small moment stories to publish. They made a book cover, an all about the author page, and a dedication page. Students used the microphone to read their favorite part to the entire class. Then they broke off into small groups of 2-3 to read their entire stories. The other students in the group gave some positive feedback when they were done. When everyone was finished reading their entire stories, we had a treat of cookies and juice boxes. We also got to eat the cupcakes that Aidin’s mom had brought in when she was our Mystery Reader earlier in the day. Take a look at the slideshow below to see our writing celebration!

November 8, 2013: Sticky Note Thinking

This week we began to use sticky notes to think about our reading. Students were given a sticky notes reference sheet and a pad of sticky notes to keep in their book baskets. Yesterday, they were given a Sticky Note Thinking sheet. They had to do 4 sticky notes during Read to Self time. They sticky noted things such as: favorite part, a prediction, a question, a word that they didn’t know, an interesting word, and more. Take a look at some of our thinking!
