This week we will be working on Unit 13 in Spelling. Today, your child should have brought home their pretest along with the homework paper. Please help your child review these words for our test on Friday. Spelling homework is due back to school by Friday. This week’s skill is working with silent letters. I found this really fun game to play to help your practice this skill. If you would like to play, just click on the picture below. Start out with level 1 and make sure that your sound is turned on.

POLAR EXPRESS PAJAMA PARTY: On Monday, we will be having our Polar Express Pajama Party. Please wear your pajamas to school, you may bring slippers if you wish. Also, please bring your most treasured possession. You will be doing a writing about your most treasured possession.
CHRISTMAS PARTY: We will be having our Christmas party on Friday. We will be having a pancake breakfast. If you signed up to send something in, please send it in by Friday morning. Also, please have your child wear their “Christmas best” or something red or green.
GIFT EXCHANGE: We will be having a book exchange at our party on Friday. Please bring in a new, wrapped book, worth approx. $4.00. Please only put who it is fun on the tag.
MONEY DUE: If you did not bring in your $7.00 for our field trip to the Troy Historical Museum, please send it in this week along with the permission slip.
LIBRARY: We will be visiting the Media Center on Friday. Please make sure your child returns their books.
WEDNESDAY: Please have your child wear their second grade t-shirt to school.
On Friday, our book buddies came down for a visit. They brought a Christmas craft for us to do….Thank you Mrs. Arnold for putting that together. When they were done, they played a roll and draw Christmas tree game. We also had some Christmas cookies.
This week we read a fun Christmas book called, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell, for our Book Treasure book. Today, your child should have brought home a retelling sheet, their envelope, and a bell for the book treasure. Please make sure that you include all of the story elements in your retelling. Envelopes and retelling sheets are due back by next Tuesday. If you would like to listen to the story again, just click on the title below.
Today, Mr. Mety and Olivia (principal for the day) came in and read us two Christmas stories. Olivia read us It’s Christmas David! and Mr. Mety read us Ten on a Sled.
GYM/LIBRARY: We have Gym on Tuesday, please make sure that your child wears/brings tennis shoes. Also, we have library on Friday, please make sure your child brings back their library books. It’s been a few weeks since we have been and the kids are anxious to get new books!
1/2 DAY: Thursday is a 1/2 day. Dismissal will be at 12:00.

FIELD TRIP: We will be visiting The Troy Historical Museum in January. This is a wonderful field trip to compliment our unit on the past. A letter regarding this trip should have come home last week. Please be sure to send in $7.00 for your child’s ticket. This will cover the entry fee for the museum. The bus transportation fees will be paid with PTO money. If you would like to chaperone, please send in the background check form as soon as possible.
FAMILY GIFT: We started making our family gift today. If you did not send in the $1.00 donation, please send it in as soon as possible.
