February 22, 2014: Weekly Reminders

100th DAY OF SCHOOL: Tuesday is our 100th day of school. I have a lot of fun things planned for the day. Please make sure you bring your collection of 100 items to school Tuesday. Don’t forget to fill out the sheet about your collection.

GYM/LIBRARY: We have Gym class on Tuesday. Please don’t forget to wear/bring your tennis shoes. We are having way too many students sitting on the stage and not participating because they don’t have tennis shoes. We have library on Friday, don’t forget your books.

EARLY RELEASE DAY: Tuesday is an Early Release Day, dismissal will be at 1:30.

DR. SEUSS’S BIRTHDAY: We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Monday, March 3. I am still looking for two volunteers to come in and help make the green eggs and ham and the toast. If you are able to come in and help, please let me know as soon as possible.

RESTAURANT/OPINION WRITING NOTES: The restaurant/movie/dvd notes are due on Monday. Please make sure that your notes are very descriptive and detailed. If your notes are not here on Monday, you will not be able to start writing your final review.

February 21, 2014: Book Treasure Book

Today we read 100th Day Worries as our book treasure book. Your child should have brought home their envelope, retelling sheet, and a foam smiley face (from my 100 collection). Please encourage your child to do a very detailed retelling of the story. Retelling sheets are due back to school by Tuesday. Below is a video of two of Mrs. Laidlaw’s students reading the book.

February 20, 2014: Guess the Number

Here is a fun game that I found on another blog about four years ago, and I’ve been posting it on my blog every year since. It’s called Guess the Number. You pick a number and the computer will guess it, pretty cool!!!  If you would like to play the game, just click on the picture below and it will take you to it and you can try it. Try it out and leave a comment here to let me know how you did. I can’t wait to hear!!!

February 19, 2014: Valentine’s Day Party

Last Friday we celebrated Valentine’s Day. We each got to make our own individual pizza bagel, we decorated a cookie, and passed out our cards and treats. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Middleton and Mrs. Markham for coming in and helping with our party. Also, thank you to all of the parents who sent in food and treats!!!

February 17, 2014: Cookie Island Project

A couple of weeks ago, we worked on our Cookie Island projects. We used different food items to create landforms on a large sugar cookie. We used green coconut for plains, Hershey Kisses for mountains, brown frosting for dirt, chocolate chips for hills, miniature candy bars for plateaus, blue icing for rivers, and then we placed them on a blue napkin which became our lakes and oceans. We took a picture of our cookie islands and last week, we used an app called Skitch to label our pictures. Click on the picture below to get to our classroom weebly to see our slide show of our Skitch projects.

February 17, 2014: Fish Celebration

Last week, we had our second Fish Celebration. We recognized 4 students who did a wonderful job following all aspects of the Fish Philosophy. We went into the gym for the celebration. Their parents we all invited. They were called up one at a time to be recognized. Congratulations to LeVar (absent), Zackary, Gavin, and Jaden.

February 17, 2014: Valentine Candy Graph

On Thursday, we worked with a partner on a Valentine heart candy graph. We found a partner, and we each sorted our box of heart candies by colors. Then we tallied how many of each color we had. Finally, we colored in a bar graph for each color. When we were done, we got to eat the hearts.
