This past Friday, we attempted the Save Fred Challenge. Fred the worm had his boat capsize. He ended up on top of it and his life preserver was underneath it. Using only 4 paperclips, no hands, the students had to try to save him by getting him his life preserver. This was a great problem solving and team building activity!
Yesterday we put the final touches on our Cardboard Challenge projects then we got to share them with everyone. It was exciting to see all of the cool things that everyone made!!
Today, we had our first writing celebration! Students got into groups of 3 and shared their stories. They also gave feedback on each other’s stories, stating one thing that they liked and one thing they think they could work on for next time.
Today, we took the Marshmallow Challenge. Students were given 20 pieces of spaghetti, 3 marshmallows, 1 yard of string, and 1 yard of tape. They were challenged to build the tallest tower. They planned, built, and problem solved with their groups. Take a look at some of our pictures.
Today, we started talking about fixed mindset vs. growth mindset. This year, we are going to work really hard to develop a growth mindset. We watched this video about “The Power of Yet.” We also made a project for the hallway. Take a look at both! Your child should have brought home some information on this today.
