About Mrs. Short
Hello Everyone!!! Welcome to our classroom blog. My name is Michelle Short and I teach second grade at Eisenhower Elementary in Fraser, Michigan. This will be a great way to share information. I will be posting homework assignments here along with pictures and videos that we take in class. This is my 20th year teaching and my 8th year teaching second grade. This is also my ninth year here at Eisenhower Elementary. I have 3 children. Kyle, who is 20, Connor, who is 16, and Kayla, who is 13. I also have 2 dogs, Lexi and Lilly. I enjoy being outside, spending time with my family and going up north. I absolutely love teaching second grade. It is a great grade to teach, and I can’t wait for this year to start.

Salutations!
I am in awe of your blog/site. I also teach 2nd grade at a downtown L.A elementary school. May I email you some questions as to how long it took you to set up your site, how difficult is it to maintain and keep secure? etc…
I would love to do this for my class next year.
Cheers,
Susannah
BTW
I love the dogs, too. I have a beautiful bull mastiff named Bambi!

Hi Mrs. Short!
This is a very inspiring website! I just began my 2nd year teaching 2nd grade in Sheridan, Wyoming and my goal this year is to create a website for my class. I was wondering what the policy is on posting student pictures, videos, or examples of their work. Did you have your parents sign some type of permission slip? Also, do you have any advice on how to begin building my website?! I know you are a VERY busy woman, but if you could point me in the right direction just a little bit I would be so grateful.
Thank you so much!
Meagan

Good Morning Mrs. Short,
I love your website! I recently was given a 2nd grade reading and writing group. I would appreciate any help you could share with starting off having your students write.
Do they need 5 of their favorite books?
I noticed some of the students were doing writing activities that were different from the others.
When do you do expository, narrative and persuasive writing?
How often do you do writing?
After they write about their favorite part what elements do you teach?
Any help would really make my day! Thanks, Happy Holidays

Hello,
I work for onlinemastersineducation.org , a website catering to current and prospective educators. Through our own research, evaluating factors such as peer recommendations, web presence, and content quality, we’re developing a list of useful websites for educators entitled Teaching Teachers: 100 Best Web Resources for Educators.
We are pleased to inform you that we have nominated Mrs. Short’s Second Grade for inclusion on our list!
Should you be featured on the final list, we’ll provide you with a badge to display on your website, and to promote your inclusion on your social media accounts.
Once the list is published, we’ll be reaching out to other education bloggers and websites to ensure maximum recognition for your site.
Additionally, if you wish to nominate another education blog or website that you feel is worthy of a spot on our list, please let us know. We’re still in the review and nomination stage.
Best,
Lauren

Hi! You seem to really have perfected the Daily 5 in your classroom! I teach first grade and want to implement it into my classroom this year but, I am having a really hard time with the idea of letting my students chose for themselves what workstation they go to. Do you think it would be detrimental if I did not include this aspect into my Daily 5??
August 2nd, 2012 at 3:36 pm
I do think that choice is a very important component. I had a hard time too, that’s why they have to do Read to Self and Work on Writing everyday. They get to choose the third session. If students tend to be picking the same thing each day, I do have them choose something else. They really do enjoy having a choice!!

I came across your blog when looking for examples of on-line parent communication for a technology class I am taking. Can you give me some insight as to the parent response to the blog? It seems to me you have set up a great site with lots of useful information!
