Bucket Filling
To help promote character education in our classroom, we read the book, Have You Filled A Bucket Today? This book helps promote positive feelings and attitudes towards ourselves and others. In a new twist on the Golden Rule, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our feelings about ourselves. When our buckets are full, we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad. It’s important to know that we can fill our own bucket and so can others. We can also dip into it. After we read the book we listed ways to fill other people’s bucket on a big bucket poster. Then we each signed a little paper bucket that said, “I will do my best to be a bucket filler this year.” We then cut out the buckets and hung them around the poster. I have included a link to the “Bucket Fillers” website.

We really like your idea for filling another person’s bucket. I will try this next year in my classroom.
My second grade class used your website to talk about blogging. We think you must have a huge classroom to have so many tables and books. We use frogs in our classroom too!
Have a great rest of the school year!

Yes, they fill out a little slip when someone has filled their bucket, then we do a drawing each Friday for some little prizes.
