Daily 5 Files
I have had MANY teachers ask me for my files for The Daily 5, so I decided to make a page and put some links to some my files. Just click on the ones you want and it will take you to Google Docs and you can download them. When I put them in Google Docs it changed my font and moved some stuff around, but at least it gives you an idea of what they look like and you can create your own. Hope this helps for all of you who have asked!!

Do you have any picture books you use during your launching like Dex the Heart of the Hero?

Hello,
Yes, I have many books I use to launch Daily 5. Here are a few:
I Hate to Read, Miss Malarkey Leaves No Reader Behind, The Best Place to Read, The Best Book to Read, Reading Makes Me Feel Good, Hooray for Reading, Charlie Cook’s Favorite Book, I Can Read with my Eyes Shut, and Wild About Books. Books are a great way to start off a mini lesson

Hi! You may have already answered this question before, but I am new to the daily five and cafe and I was wondering when do you begin CAFE? BTW I am the one from Cairo, Egypt that constantly visits your site for inspiration on tons of things. I really enjoy it especially since this is my 2nd yr teaching, it gives me great hope! The name of my school in New Cairo, Egypt is: Bedayia International School.

Hello,
I begin doing Daily 5 the first day of school. We begin with Read to Self time and work on building stamina with our reading. It takes about a month to get all five activities going. I begin teaching the CAFE strategies within the first few days of school and continue teaching one or two strategies a week until I have covered them all. Thank you for your compliments and good luck this year!!

Hi!
I’m trying Daily 5 for the first time this school year. You said that you only do a couple of CAFE lessons a week. Do you just reteach those through out the week? Also, how do you go about grading your students?
Thanks

Hello,
Yes, I usually teach 1-2 strategies a week. We revisit them daily. My students are graded by their DRA level as well as how they read during their time when they meet with me.

What kind of mini lessons do you teach your students?

My mini lessons are usually teaching the CAFE strategies. I also use a flip chart that I got from Lakeshore Learning that has passages that teach different strategies.
