Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Michelle Short and I will be your child’s second grade teacher this year. I graduated from Wayne State University with a triple minor in Social Studies, Language Arts, and Early Childhood. I also received a masters degree from Oakland University in Reading and Language Arts. This is my 18th year teaching and my sixth year teaching second grade. I have taught preschool, DK, kindergarten, first, second, and third. Below is a list of a few reminders.

**Please print your child’s name in EVERYTHING; sweaters, coats, boots, gloves, hats, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc…

**Please send your child to school with a backpack everyday. He/she will be bringing home many important notes, as well as homework everyday.

**We will be having a healthy snack each day during center/reading group time. Please send in a healthy snack, as well as a juice box if you wish. Please see the “Daily Snack Policy” page for suggestions.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns. Please see the “Contact Information” page for ways to contact me. I do check my school e-mail several times during the day.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Second grade is an awesome year, and I am sure that your child will enjoy it!!!

Sincererly,

Mrs. Short

  1. I love your site. You have wonderful ideas!! I appreciate the photos, as well as the videos. I have been teaching upper elementary for a few years, and I am starting 2nd grade in a few days. I feel out of the loop and came online looking for information regarding The Daily Five. Your site is extremely informative and organized!!! Thank you for being a great teacher!!!
