Also (eco)Delightful: Packing a Waste-Free Lunch (from delight.com)

Bringing a packed lunch to work verses going out every day has many benefits.  For one thing, it saves money.  Since I’ve been bringing my lunch to work, I’ve noticed I have a lot more money left over at the end of the month. I mean, it’s truly amazing how much I am saving!  I also find I eat healthier.  It takes a little more planning and preparing, but it’s worth it because I’m avoiding junk food and high caloric restaurant lunches. But the really exciting aspect of bringing my lunch is that it’s eco-friendly and waste-free!

It’s really easy to get going by following Five Simple Ways to Pack a Waste-Free Lunch with tips that I found at GlobalStewards.org
1.    I pack my lunch in a reusable carrier like a cloth bag or lunchbox.
2.    I use reusable containers rather than plastic wrap, foil or Styrofoam.
3.    I bring drinks in a thermos and avoid single-use cartons or cans.
4.    I’ve said “no” to paper napkins and pack fun, cloth napkins that are washable and reusable.
5.    And I pack my own silverware that can be washed and re-used. I find It’s so much more refined than eating with plastic forks and spoons!

And check out this stat:
“It has been estimated that on average a school-age child using a disposable lunch generates 67 pounds of waste per school year. That equates to 18,760 pounds of lunch waste for just one average-size elementary school. wastefreelunches.org

As they “The best way to reduce garbage, is not create it.”
