TREASURE BOOK-We will be decorating our “Treasure Book” on Friday. If your child has not brought in a writing compostition book, please make sure you send it in by Wednesday. I am also asking that you send in photos, magazine pictures, pictures from the computer, words of things they like, stickers for the children to decorate both sides of their treasure book.

GRAMMAR-We started talking about nouns, capitals and punctuation this week. We are learning about common and proper nouns, where capitals belong in a sentence and punctuation at the end of a sentence.

READING-Buddy bags started coming home Thursday. The children have nightly reading homework. Make sure to look for their buddy bag, listen to your child read the book and sign the pink agenda in the green take home folder.

Next week we are going to start our Write about Reading. As the children read their books they will write about their favorite part, make predictions, retell the story or discuss the story elements.

WRITING-As we work during writing workshop we are discussing how writers come up with ideas and develop them. Last week we made a boo-boo map, where we wrote down all our boo’s that we have gotten over the years. This week we will make a heart map.

MATH-We are continuing with Unit 1. The children have been working very hard on their 1,000 books-writing numbers through 1,000. We have been reviewing counting by 2’s, 5’s 10’s and 100’s through 1,000, odd and even numbers, greater than, less than and equal to numbers and filling in blank in a 100’s grid.

This week we are also beginning Mad minutes. We will start with 30 simple addition problems to be completed in 3 minutes. we will then move down to 2 minutes as they become more proficient.

I give the same mad minute test Monday thru Friday. If your child finishes all 30 problems with no mistakes, he/she will not have to take it again for the rest of the week. If there are any mistakes, he/she will retake the test again the following day. I am looking to see accuracy increase every day.

LIBRARY-Don’t forget to bring back your library books on Wednesday!!!

EARLY RELEASE DAY-The first early release day is Thursday Sept. 22nd. Children will be released at 1:30.
