Last week we started working on our audio boos. Audio boo is an app that lets the children record their voices and add a photo to the button. Take a peek at one of the boos.

NO SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK DUE TO SHORTENED WEEK 

Unit 4 in Math focuses on addition and subtraction in number stories. We will also be teaching addition with regrouping this unit double and triple digit. Please continue practicing simple addition facts, as this will help when we move onto bigger numbers.

We continue with our social studies unit. We should be finishing up the unit the week after Thanksgiving break.

NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY NOV. 27th thru SUNDAY DEC 1st for Thanksgiving break.

Look for conference sheet with date and times for your conference to come home Monday.

Conferences are Wed Dec 4th 4:30-7:30- students will be released at 1:30 and Thurs Dec 5th 1:00-3:00 and 4:30-7:30-students will be released at 12:00. 

Book Treasure-The first thanksgiving

This week we read The First Thanksgiving. We talked about the journey across the ocean, pilgrims, the hardship they faced and the first Thanksgiving. We also made a key chain with beads to help retell the story. I do not have a recording of this story. Therefore use the retelling sheet as a guide for the response sheet.

Today the students made a poppet with clues about their disguised turkey from our video conference earlier this week!

FISH Celebration

Today we had our first FISH philosophy celebration. 5 students were recognized for showing one of the four FISH philosophy traits. It was very hard to choose just 5 students to recognize since everyone in class is really FIN-tastic! Keep up the good work 2nd graders!

Video Conference with our Disguised Turkeys

Tuesday we had a chance to connect with 2 3rd grade classes in St. Louis MO. We disguised our turkey and the other class had to guess what they were dressed up as from our clues!

Peek of the Week-Nov18th

NO SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK OR NEXT DUE TO SHORTENED WEEK AND THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. We are going to focus on phonic and grammar skills.

Tuesday we are going to participate in a videoconference with a school in S.Louis, MO. We are sharing our disguised turkeys and try to guess what they are.

Unit 3 math test is Monday.

We will review for 1st trimester math assessment Tues and Wed with the test planned for Thursday. Students will be tested on adding and subtracting within 20 and telling time to the 5 min.

A new social studies unit is starting Tuesday. We will be learning about how communities change over time. As we study this unit we will look at first Americans and Thanksgiving traditions.

Thanksgiving feast will be Mon. Nov. 25th in the afternoon. Make sure you send in a cut up vegetable to add into our one pot vegetable soup.
