Spelling Words spelling for the week: again, off, went, old, number. The skill for the week is contractions that show possession. Our spelling tests are now up to 16 words- 5 new words and 11 words from previous tests.

Reading: we are continuing our Non-fiction unit. We will be examining text features and learning how to research topics.

Math-We will be finishing up unit 8 this week and start reviewing Mon and Tues test planned for Wed. April 1st

Writing:we are working on our Non-fiction “expert” book. Students decided what they are an expert at and are writing chapters with text features.

Don’t forget to turn in your March is Reading month log Tuesday for wonderful prizes and the opportunity to attend a pie eating contest.

Bring in a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal and some favorite books for our class read-in TUESDAY March 31st.

Social studies-we are finishing up our needs and wants unit this week. Test will be on Thursday. Look for the review sheet to come home Tuesday.

Friday is the beginning of our spring break. We will return on Monday April 13th

Spelling Words spelling for the week: why, help, put, different, away. Skill for the week is ABC order.

Reading: we are starting our Non-fiction unit. We will be examining text features and learning how to research topics.

Math-unit 8 fraction unit is well underway. We will be finishing up the unit this week and start reviewing Mon. March 30th test planned for Wed. April 1st

Writing:we are starting our Non-fiction “expert” book this week. Student will decide what they are an expert at and write a chapter book with text features. This writing unit is a favorite!

Science test is Monday March 24th-study guide came home last week.

Social studies-we will be starting the needs and wants unit this week. We will be learning about opportunity costs, natural, human and capital resources.

Spelling Words spelling for the week: must, because, does, part, even. The skill for the week is contractions.

Reading: we are continuing the unit on examining fairy tales. We will continue looking at folktales and fables this week.

Second trimester math test is planned for next Wednesday March 11th. We will be reviewing in class and a packet of double digit subtraction came home last week. Please review the packets with your child before the test.

Writing:we are finishing up our restaurant/movie review this week and working on our best day ever stories for our book we are publishing. Make sure you return the form for the book even if you do not want one-I need a response from all students.

March is reading month kicked off last week. Monday is the day to turn in your first reading log. Please remember to send it in to earn your reading tickets and raffle ticket for cool prizes.

No school Friday March 13th for records day.

Look for an e-mail on Monday to sign up for conferences if I feel we need one if you do not get an email I am not requesting a conference. If you feel you need a conference please let me know and I will make arrangements to meet with you.

Spelling Words spelling for the week: another, came, come, work, three. The skill for the week is ch, sh, th, wh.

Reading: we are continuing the unit on examining fairy tales. We will be looking at folktales and fables this week.

Math: unit 6 finishes up this week. Review sheets will be coming home Wednesday with the test planned for Friday.

Second trimester math test is planned for next Wednesday March 11th. We will be reviewing in class and a packet will come home later this week.

Writing:we are working on our individual reviews this week. Students will be writing their reviews and then make a digital project. This writing is the piece used for the second trimester writing grade.

March is reading month kicks off this week. The first activity will be green eggs and ham Monday March 2nd to celebrate Dr. Suess’s birthday. Each second grader is expected to read a minimum of 100 minutes a week. Reading their nightly homework counts towards the reading minutes. Students can also use their nightly reading to work on the Candyland Quest. The more tickets students earn the more prizes they can pick at the souvenir shop at the end of the month.
