Peek at the Week May 26th

 Spelling review week 2-pretest on Tuesday and any words spelled wrong will be on the test Friday. If all words are spelled correctly on Tuesday no test on Friday.

Reading: We are moving going to work on our final theme lessons-doing the right thing. We will be reading books and writing essay on how we can do the right thing.

Math-we are working on reviewing for the end of the year test. We will cover an essential everyday. End of the year test is scheduled Thursday June 4th. Look for review sheets to come home.

Reflex challenge: for the month of May we have challenged students to try and reach 100% in addition skills. Due to the challenge technology homework will only be to work on Reflex- it’s my hope all 2nd graders will be knighted by Mr. McDonough

Writing: we are continuing our final writing unit. This unit is a group research project unit focuses on our plant unit.

Science-we are finishing up science unit studying plants. Test is scheduled for next week. Look for review sheet to come home.

End of the year pool party is scheduled for Monday June 8th as long as Somerset pool opens on time. We hire 2 life guards to help supervise the children swim. We can take all parents that want to attend. Make sure to send the permission slip and pool waiver to school.

Writing Celebration

Second grade had their writing celebration outside this afternoon. We shared our writings with students from Mrs. Short and Mrs. Biondi’s class. The kids were very excited to share what they are an expert at.

Fluency Partner Plays

This week we worked on fluency by practicing and performing partner plays. Students were paired up, practiced their lines, made a background and puppets to perform their plays. Students had a great time working on their plays!

Green Day at IKE

Today the entire school helped clean up and landscape the outside of our school. We planted, watered and cleaned up! So proud to be a part of Green Day!

REFLEX CHALLENGE

We are challenging the students from IKE to become 100% fluent in their math facts. If you get to 100% you will be knighted by Sir McDonough in a ceremony at the end of the month!

Due to the challenge technology homework has been changed to just focus on Reflex! I would love to see everyone knighted. So log on to Reflex as much as you can and accept the challenge!

Peek at the Week -May 11th

 

Spelling Words spelling for the week: last, never, us, left, endThe skill of the week is compound words. Our spelling tests are now up to 16 words- 5 new words and 11 words from previous tests. This is our final spelling unit of the year. Next week we will start reviewing all words from the year.

Reading: We are moving back to fiction work. We will focus on inferencing skills as we read.

Math-we are working on Unit 10 which focuses on place value and money. We will be finishing up the unit this week with test planned for next week.

Science-we are continuing science unit studying plants. We are going to experiment with the things plants need to see how they react when those things are taken away or changed!
