March is Reading Month 2011

The Techie Kids have begun talking about Book Recommendations.

Each year, we look for quality texts at home, at school, and online. When we find something fabulous, we want to tell others about it! We found some wonderful resources a few years ago from Mrs. Newingham  We use her Genre Study Posters and Peer Book Recommendation Forms.

i love the book because it rimes and its interesting to me becuse he is my fave author.

    • Hi Danielle,

Thank you for sharing your book recommendation with us.

I agree that Green Eggs and Ham is a wonderful story that many people enjoy. I was wondering if you could share some specific examples with us about what makes this book so great. Do you know what genre it would best fit into?

      Your teacher,
      Mrs. Moore

  2. A good book is Lord of the Rings, It has all three stories in one book! Followed by the Hobbit, it is an awesome book! I would recommend it!

    • Dear Parker,

I am so glad that you shared this book. The Lord of the Rings is a very popular set of stories. I think you will find many classmates who would recommend it, as well. Since the storyline is very intricate, could use please share some the highlights with us? If there are others who are interested, but have not heard of this book before, I know that you could share an engaging review that would make others eager to read it!

I look forward to your reply. 🙂

      From,
      Mrs. Moore

      • Dear Mrs. Moore,
I read the reply, and I came to the computer and got started. The genera of the Lord of the Rings has it’s moments. The characters, are Bilbo Baggins, his nephew Frodo, Frodo’s friends are Sam, Merry Pippen, and Gandalf the grey. Like I said earlier, this book has it’s moments.

  3. Dear Techie Kids,
I read a book called Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Ugly Truth by Jeff Kinny and it is so cool. It is a non-fiction book. The best part was when they said my name! And I am not even kidding. It says my last name to. And it is spelled the EXACT same way. This book is funny, has a bit of mystery in it and it is a informational book to. (well if your in middle school!)

    From, Jordan

    • Dear Jordan,

Thank you for sharing your recommendation with us!

I thought I might see this title appear as part of our student recommendations. I remember how excited many of you were when the first movie about this book came out! Have you seen Jeff Kinney’s website? During our author study last year, many students found his site to be a great deal of fun!

It is interesting to me that you see so many elements of different genres in this text. I know that Mr. Alvaro loves this book. I think it would be fun to talk with him about which genre he feels has the strongest characteristics throughout the story.

      Your buddy,
      Mrs. Moore

  4. Dear Mrs.Moore

I am reading a book called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phenix. Its a little advanced for most of you. But its super cool. It’s a fiction book that’s a mystery book and some words are funny and stuff I really like it.

  5. Dear Amanda,

Hi my name is Savannah. I’m very glad that you like Harry Potter. When I was in 3rd grade, my sister got me interested in Harry Potter. By the end of the year I had already read the whole entire collection. My favorite one was the 7th one. Which one was your favorite?

    Your 4th grade friend,
    Savannah

    • Dear Savannah,

I haven’t read all of the 7 yet. I’m only on at the end of the 5th. But so far I like the 4th out of them all. I just love that fantasy books. There is this movie I am number four and I just found out Its a book so I want to read those too. They just look really cool.

      Your friend, Amanda

      • Dear Amanda,

Hi! Don’t worry about not reading all of the Harry Potter books yet it took me a whole year to read them all. I like the 4th too but wait until you read the 7th book. Its awesome! After you read the 7th book go see if they have the movie (part 1 and part 2 unless you’ve already seen it). its so sad when … my sister Amber said that when she read it she cried (and my eyes got misty too). I have got to go. Bye!

        Your friend,
        Savannah

        • Dear Savannah,

Oh now I really got to git going on them books. I already saw part 1 and part 2 is coming soon. Its funny though I’m in 5th grade now and I started the books in like 3rd grade. I guess I’m just a really slow reader. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Well now I know that its sad at the end.

          Your friend, Amanda

  6. hello TK. It’s 5:53am and I have a school inspector visiting today! However I woke up with a smile because it was a nice surprise that some of you chaps left some comments on our blog. I thought I’d quickly say thank you, because I will not be able to sort some comments for you until next week.
My favourite book for older children 9-11 is Holes, Louis Sacher.
The Diary of a Wimp books seem very popular with everyone.
Myself I love the ‘Frog’ books by Max Velthuijs. He was Dutch and they loved him so much they put his characters on their stamps!
Now I am off to mull over your suggestions, regarding blogging.

    Mr E
    Hawes
    England

  7. Hello Mr. E.,

Ooo, Holes is definitely a text that I have heard many Techie Kids speak of as a favorite too! Thank you for adding to our recommendations. I haven’t heard of the Frog books before, but he must be well liked to star on a postage stamp! My all-time favorite books are from the Nancy Drew series. I just love a good mystery! I considered it a personal challenge to try and solve the case before others do. 🙂

We have been talking about how it is okay to not like everything that you read. We are all different, so we can have different opinions. However, if we do not like a book, we discussed how important it is to focus on why we do not like it. Determining specific details will help us to make an informed decision about what books we might like to try in the future. The important part is to not give up on reading just because we did not enjoy books that other people chose for us. Exploring new genres is fun!

    Happy blogging,
    Mrs. Moore

  8. Well hello there, Jazmin!

It is so nice to hear from you. 🙂 I’m very sorry that your amazing blog was deleted! The good news is, you are already such a fabulous blogger, it will not be long before you are up and running again! Please let me know when you’ve added your ClustrMap back on. I will be sure to visit and give you a lovely red spot.
