Stories Around the World
Our class is participating in a global project called Stories Around the World. This is a group blog where 11 classes from around the world can share their stories all in one place.
***
Our stories come from 5 countries across 3 continents in both the northern and southern hemispheres. We hope to use technology as tool to enrich student learning as we flatten our classroom walls.
***
Here is a map showing the locations of all the participating classrooms.

*
Even if your class is not creating posts for this blog, we still welcome and encourage you and your class to leave us a comment . Much thanks to everyone who has already supported us!
***
Thank you for being a part of our learning!

Have you taken part in a global project before? What was it about?
Do you have any tips to share with us on global collaboration?

Hello class and Mrs. Moore. I have just landed in Amsterdam and thought I would share with all of you. I am not staying here long. I will be leaving for Italy soon, but thought I could share a couple of fun facts with you. Amsterdam is the largest city and capital of The Netherlands in Europe. The time is 6 hours ahead of Michigan and it is about 40 degrees here right now. I will try to blog again from Turin, Italy. Have a great day!

Dear Mrs. Misany,
Thank you so much for leaving us this incredible comment! Our class was very excited! You have shared some wonderful locations with us. We are all exploring Google Earth right now to find out where in the world these cities and countries are. We noticed that the temperature is very similar to where we live. We wonder if the temperature is consistently similar to us.
We see that you had to travel across the Atlantic Ocean to get to Europe. Erin found that the body of water that borders the Netherlands is the North Sea. We also tried to find out the distance between our city and Amsterdam. We discovered that Google Earth and Google Maps will not calculate the distance. We see options for directions by car, by bus, by bike, and by foot. We think that it may not be calculating because there is not an option for an airplane or ship. This makes us wonder if there is a different tool we could use to find out the distance. Thank you for inspiring us to learn more about our world!

Hi class, thank you for the reply! I’m glad that you enjoyed the post and your research. Great job on finding out all of that information, and Erin on finding the North Sea! It sounds like your class is great at researching.
The weather was close to the same in Turin, Italy also. The word Turin is the English translation of Torino. You may have heard of that. In Italy, all of my Italian colleagues say Torino. I think I like that better anyway! They like to talk about their history a lot. One night we walked to dinner (because they walk a lot there), and we went through the town square called San Carlo Square (Piazza San Carlo). There is a big statue in the center named after Emanuele Filiberto, Duke of Savoy (the first and former portion of the United Kingdom of Italy), who moved the capital from Chambery, now in France, to Torino in 1563. The statue was built by Carlo Marocchetti in 1838 and celebrates the victory in the Saint Quentin, France battle (1557). I know that’s a lot of information, but I told you they like to talk about their history! I will send a picture to Mrs. Moore’s email to show you. The picture is from my phone, because I forgot my camera (boo), so it’s not the best quality.
I will blog on my next trip coming up soon. I’ll give you a hint: it’s on another different continent!
Have a great weekend!

Hello class from South America! I had a very interesting trip this week. I went from Detroit to Atlanta to Lima, Peru, all to get to Cordoba, Argentina. It is very beautiful there and HOT! It was around 35 degrees Celsius. The next day I went to Buenos Aires to Rio de Janiero, Brazil, to get to Curitiba, Brazil. The mountains, hills, and coastlines are amazing. After that I flew to Belo Horizonte, Brazil which is where I am now. The traffic here is crazy and there are cars everywhere! There are also lots of motorcycles that zoom in between. We just saw one hit a car and then keep going. Our driver says that’s a normal day here. There are lots and lots of houses everywhere too, just like on TV. Everybody is very nice though, and although the language is Portugese here and Spanish in Argentina, most people speak English too. Well, I have to catch my flight to Miami so I can get home to the U.S.A! Cannot wait! Thanks for being awesome!
