Kindness

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the Techie Kids have been talking about friendship and kindness. We are grateful for our friends. That makes us want to practice being kind to others.

Here are some of the ideas we shared. Click on the picture-link below to hear a story about an unlikely friendship between a baby hippo and a tortoise.

Some Techie Kids created posters using Kerpoof, Kid Pix 4, and TuxPaint to share ways to be a good friend and show kindness.

Can you tell me a story of a time when someone showed kindness to you?

How can you be a kind friend?

How can you show kindness to your teacher or your family?

  1. Dear Techie Kids,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I love how you are relating kindess and technology. I think my students would love to make one of those posters. Do you think you could explain how to do it so we can try too?
It was fun to see the cover of Owen and Mzee on your blog. I just read it this week to one of my classes because we are doing research on hippos.
I have a favorite kindness book. It’s called Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship, and Survival. These kinds of animal friendship stories remind me that we are all connected somehow.
What are you working on next?

  2. Dear Mrs. Hembree,

Sure! We’d love to explain it to you! Our class visited Kerpoof.com to make our posters and clicked on “Make a Picture.” Then, we picked our background. Next, we chose our characters, like an astronaut, cowboy, or tennis player. We decided on a story idea that we would like to tell. Finally, we typed in the text boxes or speech bubbles to add writing to our story. It’s just that easy!

We are interested in your hippo research. We’ve seen a hippo at the zoo, but never read about one. What are some of the most interesting facts you’ve learned?

Well, our current adventure is exploring classroom blogs. We are learning that technology is letting us make connections around the world. We like that you said we are all connected somehow. That’s a fun idea.

Thank you so much for visiting! Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!

  3. Dear Techie Kids
I am Mrs Mckenzie and my class is called B4. We live in New Zealand.
I was very interested to see that you are also talking about kindness and friendship because that is what the children in B4 are talking about too!
B4 didn’t get to use techie tools to display their learning – this time they made art works which was fun too.

I think a kind friend is one who doesn’t expect to get their own way all the time but makes sure the turns are fair.

    kind wishes
    Mrs McKenzie
