This is the third week of our collaborative project.
In an effort to let you know a little about us…
This blog is for our whole school to use. Mrs. Moore (that’s me) is a Technology teacher for Kindergarten through 5th grade. There are 400 students in our school. 200 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are the ones who practice their commenting skills. The unique part is that everything seen here is done in a much smaller time frame than a self-contained classroom. Each class, out of 15, works with me in the computer lab for 1 hour each week. That means that we are limited by huge time restrictions. I may be crazy for trying to be buddies with such fabulous self-contained classrooms, but the possibilities are too incredible to pass up. Blogging is, for now, a foreign concept in our district. I am hoping to show other teachers how much potential is here. There are so many who can do this bigger and better, but for now, we’re just going to keep trying to do the best we can with what we’ve got.
This week will be an extra challenge for the Techie Kids. We will be trying to comment and respond from home because we are on spring break this week! It’s always good to challenge yourself, right? ☺
Please take a look around. We hope you find some interesting things.

The Techie Kids have enjoyed looking around areas near our Quad Blogging Buddies with 360 Cities. They were so excited to explore areas they hadn’t seen before, that they started to brainstorm interesting locations around the world. Here are the locations that they thought would be fun to investigate.

The Quad Blog concept was created by Mr. Mitchell in England. He thought this would be a good way for classes to connect and learn more about each other. At the same time, we can make our ClustrMaps or Flag Counters colorful! The students will be able to learn more about 3 different countries in a very fun way. Our hope is that we will have many meaningful conversations that will help flatten our classroom walls. We think this is a wonderful idea and are excited to be a part of it.

4,000 educators from the Michigan area attended the conference to gather ideas and learn about new ways to make learning experiences meaningful for our students. Our student presenters did an incredible job speaking with adults and sharing their excitement about learning. They also demonstrated their photography skills to share some pictures with all of you.
I’d also like to welcome all of the teachers and students that we met at the showcase who are visiting our blog from other schools! Please feel free to leave us a comment and see how much fun blogging can be. :) You can also email me if you’d like.
Additionally, I’d like to thank the wonderful families that brought their children to the conference and have supported us in our adventures! You are awesome!
Here is the BookQuest that we shared at the Student Technology Showcase.
Do you have any questions to ask our four, fabulous, student presenters?
What was your favorite part of working with our blog buddies in Australia?
What kinds of exciting activities do you think we should try in the future?

Each year, we look for quality texts at home, at school, and online. When we find something fabulous, we want to tell others about it! We found some wonderful resources a few years ago from Mrs. Newingham. We use her Genre Study Posters and Peer Book Recommendation Forms.

Sure it’s Dr. Seuss’ birthday today, (and you will find some fun links below) but did you know that we have another birthday to celebrate today?
I just realized that our blog has been up and running for the past 12 months. I can’t believe how much we’ve learned! We have met some amazing students and some fantabulous educators!
For a bit of fun, here are some of the past year’s highlights…
on our site!
We’ve had visits from
and
from around the world!
I remember noticing how other blogs had such spotty ClustrMaps. I didn’t know if anyone outside of our school would ever visit!
Click on the highlighted links below to view a few of our past posts…
Since it is Dr. Seuss’ birthday too, we can have some Cat in the Hat fun by revisiting these links.
Thank you for helping the Techie Kids grow into global learners!

We participated in World Maths Day!
Students from all over the world came together to compete and sharpen their math skills. The 3rd and 4th graders had so much fun! We played as part of the 5.3 million students from 218 countries that were registered from around the world. Some of us were even matched against a classmate.
Last year, “2,403,526 students participated from 236 countries, correctly answering 479,732,613 questions. Due to the amazing work of students around the world, a new Guinness World Record was also set, what an achievement!”
Before we signed out for the day, there were almost 343,000,000 total correct answers!
