Its Friday March 18.
You bring a book you get a book.
You bring 6 books you get 6 books.
You bring 12 books you get 12 books.
You get the idea.
So start looking for books to swap.
Time for a joke: If you threw a black stone
into the Red Sea, what would happen to it?
Time for yesterday’s poem:
New York is in North Carolina,
Seattle is found in Peru,
New Mexico borders on Norway and Italy.
Boston’s near Kalamazoo
Quebec is a town in Haw3aii.
Connecticut lies in Trieste.
Those are a few of the answers I wrote
when I flunked my geography test.
This poem is by Jack Prelutsky
Time for a game: WHERE THE NAME FITS THE PLACE
- OR DOES IT?
Time for a link to Part One of Geographia.
Time for some new stuff:
Remember that Geography allows us, you and I, to compare and contrast places all over the world, to look at the connections between them, and to try to make some sense of the world around us.
They help us to understand the answers to four important questions
Pearl Harbor, Ground Zero, Detroit,
Remember that Geography allows us, you and I, to compare and contrast places all over the world, to look at the connections between them, and to try to make some sense of the world around us.
They help us to understand the answers to four important questions
This post was put together using 15 years worth of notes. I do not remember many of the sources. If something here comes from an unnamed source you know about please let me know and I will give credit where credit is due. I do want to thank the Michigan Geographic Alliance and the people at National Geographic for all the support and materials given to me over the few years.

Let’s start off with a quote:
Education is our passport to the future,
for tomorrow belongs to the people
who prepare for it today.
MalcolmX
And a poem
You have a magic carpet that will whiz you through the air,
To Spain or Maine or Africa, if you just tell it where,
So will you let it take you where you’ve never been before?
Or will you buy some drapes to match and use it on your floor?
Shel Silverstein
Since you liked that poem so much I have another for you.
New York is in North Carolina,
Seattle is found in Peru,
New Mexico borders on Norway and Italy.
Boston’s near Kalamazoo
Quebec is a town in Hawaii.
Connecticut lies in Trieste.

The aim of this lesson is to help you
pass your geography test
and have some fun
learning about geography.
By the way what do you call a poodle
that visits the north pole?
Economists study….
Political Scientists study…
and that means Geographers study….
I’m told the word geography was coined by a famous Greek scholar named Eratosthenes more than 200o years ago. He happened to be my fourth grade teacher.
It means “writing about the earth”
The word geography is made up of two words actually. Geo means earth and graphy is a greek word that refers to writing. So basically geography is the study of the Earth and the people and places on it.
Someone once TOLD me geography provides a framework for studying the world and the things that live on it.
The tools are called The Five Themes of Geography
They are:
Enough for today, my brain is about to explode with stuff. And oh, by the way, why do birds fly south for the winter?
