Cookie Island

Today we made a cookie into an island with various land forms on it!!  Once we finished designing our cookie we had to make a map with a key to show what we put on the cookie. The best part was of course eating the cookie!!

We are going to go visit 4 colleges over break. My daughter Hailey will be a senior in the fall and we are going to check out some schools she is considering attending!!

A Peek at the Week

This is going to be a short week.  We have a 1/2 day on Wednesday, March 31st and conferences that afternoon and evening.

SPELLING-Since last week was a short week we will have the Unit 22 test on Monday. No new words until after Easter Break.

MATH-We  started Unit 7  last week and will finish it off once we get back from vacation.

POETRY CONTEST-Eisenhower’s annual poetry contest is April 21st. All the students need to pick and memorize a poem for the classroom reading on April 16th. Poems need to be turned in for approval on Tuesday, April 13th. I am able to send 2 students to the school-wide contest. Please let me know if your child would like to be considered for the school-wide contest. Make sure to look for a note abou1 the contest this week.

APRIL SELF-ESTEEM PROJECT-Look for April’s project to come home this week!! It is due when we get back from break!!


March is Reading Month Read-In

Last week we spent the afernoon reading our favorite books. The children brought in and shared pillows, blankets and stuffed animals.

March is Reading Month and Mrs. Kuras has arranged for some mystery readers to come visit us in the library. We were very lucky to listen to Mrs. Bannister,  Fraser Public Schools Board Member, read us 2 great stories this morning.

Math-Unit 8 is fairly short and we will be finished by the end of the week. The test for Unit 8 is planned for Monday, March 22nd. We will then review Tuesday and test the children on 2nd grade essentials covered so far (report card testing) Wednesday, March 24th. Look for both review sheet to come home this week.

School Wide Read-In-The read in is scheduled for Friday, March 19th.  Make sure you bring a pillow,  blanket and stuffed animal to read to!!!

Conferences are held Wednesday, March 31st (1/2 day that day)

Spelling- The spelling word for the week are:

We are up to 14 words on our spelling tests-please make sure to go back and study old words. Especially the homonyms!!

March is Reading Month Logs-The reading logs are due every Monday!! Today the children earned $10.00 and a piece of bubblegum for turning in their log.

Next turn in date is Monday, March 15th. Please continue to track their minutes!!!

Math-We have just finished unit 6 and are now moving on to fractions. Second grade is flipping Unit 7 and 8 because we need to teach fractions for the 3rd  quarter assessment.  

Reading-The children have been working on partner plays. They are improving their fluency and using voices while performing the play. Look for a video in the pages sections.

Social Studies-We are finishing up our unit on American Symbols. A study guide came home Friday. Test is on Wednesday!!! The next unit is Landforms.

HELP, HELP-We are running out of hand sanitizer and tissues!!! If you would please send some in I would really appreciate it!! Thanks!!

I will be absent Wednesday-Friday this week. I am attending a computer conference in Grand Rapids. Mrs. Emery will be with the children. She is a wonderful substitute and has been in for me all year so the children know her well.
