Peek at the Week 11-4

NO SPELLING THIS WEEK BECAUSE OF A FOUR DAY WEEK! We are going to work on long vowel patterns.

•Word sorts-last week started doing word sorts. We took a spelling test to determine the proper group each students. The sorts focus on different spelling patterns. Short vowel vs. long vowels, common long vowel patterns, less common long vowel patterns, etc. Working with word sorts helps both spelling and reading skills. Once students have sorted a sort 2x’s at school the sorts will come home. Please help your child continue practicing their sorts. Please sign and return the word sort form after practicing 3 more times.

•Math-Friday we started unit 3. Unit 3 focuses on place value money and time.

•Science test will be postponed until Monday Nov. 11th. We got a little behind last week with the holiday and I forgot about no school this Tuesday. Look for review sheet at the end of the week.

•Thank you to all the families that helped us reach our goal for the fun run…we get to watch Mr. Metty eat bugs now

•Gizmo game night-come join us for a fun game night Wed. Nov. 6th. at 6:30. Send in the form or a note letting us know you will attend.

QR code scavenger hunt

Thursday we had a chance to do a QR code scavenger hunt out in the hall with my mom. (Half the class went-other half will go next Thurs)

The kids used a QR code reader on the iPad and a math problem popped up. The kids solved the math problem and then moved on to the next card. It was a fun way to practice math facts!

Mystery Skype

Today we participated on our 2nd mystery Skype. Yesterday we studied a US map and took what we learned from our last Skype and tried to narrow down what state our mystery class is from. We came up with questions to help find out where they are.

  • Does your state Border the Gulf of Mexico?
  • Does your state border Canada?
  • Does your state have a “S” in its name?
  • How many states border your state?
  • Does your state have an “A” in its name?
The kids were soooo excited when they figured out what state our mystery class is from.
